Reforms are needed in penal institutions following the riot in the Quezon City jail sparked by efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the prison, according to Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Police scoured Quezon City Jail on Monday but found no traces of illegal drugs.

In partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, the Quezon City Social Services Development Department (SSDD) will conduct livelihood skills training for female detainees.

The Quezon City Council ratified an agreement between the city government and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) designating a portion of the city’s property in Payatas as the site of the new Quezon City Jail.
