Taguig declares three barangays as drug-free

More barangays in Taguig are now considered free of illegal drugs.

The Regional Oversight Committee (ROC) on Dangerous Drugs declared Brgy. Calzada-Tipas, Brgy. South Daang Hari, and Brgy. Central Signal as drug-cleared as of December 2022.

The ROC is composed of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Department of Health, Department of the Interior and Local Government, and the Philippine National Police.

These agencies evaluate each barangay’s compliance with the parameters of the Barangay Drug Clearing Program mandated by the Dangerous Drugs Board.

The drug-cleared barangay status is given to barangays which were previously considered as drug-affected barangays due to the presence of drug personalities, illegal drug users, pushers, and the presence of drug dens, but have undergone processes to verify their efforts and campaigns in solving drug problem in their areas.

The Taguig City government hailed the drug-free status of the three barangays as a major achievement.

The city now has a total of six drug-free barangays, it said.

“The City of Taguig is committed in continuing its efforts in eliminating illegal drugs and hopes to achieve a drug-free city through the implementation of effective strategies and programs,” it said on Facebook.
