Operatives of the National Capital Region Police Office, in coordination with other government agencies, seized thousands of sacks of smuggled yellow onions worth P1.9 million in an operation in Tondo, Manila.
NCRPO chief Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo commended the law enforcers for their successful activity.
They were able to confiscate 1,037 bags of smuggled onions, which came amid the soaring prices of onions in the Philippines.
Estomo said he would not allow smugglers to take advantage of the situation in the country.
“While there is a soar in the price of onions and possible shortage, some are taking advantage of the situation and imported illegally.
