The House Committee on Local Government has endorsed for plenary approval the proposal seeking to provide a clear succession of power in case a vacancy occurs in the position of mayor or vice mayor in Valenzuela City.
A Committee report 174 and a copy of House Bill 6157 were transmitted to the plenary by the committee led by Valenzuela Rep. Rex Gatchalian.
Under the measure, in case a permanent vacancy occurs in the position of mayor the vice mayor will succeed as the mayor.
If a vacancy occurs in the position of vice mayor, the highest ranking Sangguniang Panlungsod member will succeed.
If there is a tie in the highest number of votes garnered in the recent election of the Sangguniang Panlungsod members, there will be a drawing of lots to determine the winner.
The successors shall serve only for the unexpired terms of their predecessors.
