The House of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a measure seeking to declare a non-working holiday on Marikina City every April 16.

No one objected to the passage of House Bill 3279, which will amend Republic Act 10788—a law declaring a special working holiday in the city every April 16.

April 16 is the founding anniversary of Marikina City, the shoe capital of the Philippines.

Marikina City Rep. Marjorie Ann Teodoro, author of the measure said the proposal is in recognition of the men and women who toiled for Marikina in the past and present generations who contribute to the city’s growth.
