Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano served as guest speaker during Save the Children Foundation’s celebration of White Cane Day, which seeks to raise awareness about the situation and challenges faced by the visually impaired.

Joining Cayetano were representatives of groups of parents and children with the same condition, such as Future Vision, Helping Hands, Taguig Children with Disability Group, and Taguig City Persons with Disability Federation.

Cayetano underscored the importance of these groups in guiding and inspiring children who need special attention and care.

She also said the Taguig local government was doing its best to care for the visually impaired and other persons with disabilities, and vowed continued support for them and their needs.

Taguig was one of the first local governments to open a Personality with Disabilities Affairs Office and to provide benefits and services to the differently-abled, she said.

It also continues to operate a special education center and would soon set up a Disability Resource and Development Center, she said.

“Higit sa mga imprastraktura, mas higit ang mga programang naaangkop sa pangangailangan ng mga PWD. Taguig will continue to partner with Save the Children to provide more programs suited to the specific needs of our constituents,” she said.
