Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco seeks creation of Manila Bay Management Council

Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco has proposed the creation of the Manila Bay Management Council that would be in charge of the management, protection, preservation, and restoration of the Manila Bay area.

Tiangco said having a single body handling the area would do away with conflicting policies that local government units around the bay may impose.

This would also pave the way for better care for the welfare of the country’s fishermen, he said.

Under his House Bill 2926, the MBMC would be the sole authority to manage, control, and supervise Manila Bay.

The council would be composed of the Agriculture Secretary, the Environment Secretary, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chair, and the Governors of Bataan, Bulacan, Pamapanga, and Cavite.

The Office of the Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources would serve as the Secretariat.

The bill also proposes that the MBMC be provided an initial budget of P20 million.
