Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto discusses programs with SK officials, backs possible extension of their terms
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto met with Sangguniang Kabataan leaders to discuss their programs and projects, even as he acknowledged the city’s inadequate support for them during the pandemic.
Sotto said he knows the past three years had not been easy for the SK officials, especially with the city government not prioritizing them during the COVID-19 crisis.
In case the SK officials’ terms would be extended due to proposals in Congress to postpone the elections, it could be a good thing as it would give them more time to carry out programs halted by the pandemic, he said.
“They’ve also had a hard time the last 3 years. Dahil sa pandemya, nagkulang din ang city government ng suporta sa kanila. Kaya kung ma-eextend man yung term nila ng susunod na kongreso, baka maganda na rin para mahabol natin yung ibang plano nila na hindi nagawa dahil sa covid,” he said on Facebook.
He urged SK officials to continue working to empower the city’s youth and to help them avoid traditional politics.
“We continue to encourage our SK to always work towards youth empowerment, to be independent and proactive, and to steer away from traditional politics,” he said.
