MRT-3 sets new daily passenger record
The MRT-3 set a new daily passengers record on May 20 when it logged 351,592 passengers.
This was the highest number of passengers it has accommodated since June 1, 2020, when it resumed operations during the pandemic.
This beat the previous record set on May 13 when it logged 345,411 daily passengers.
The MRT-3 management attributed the high number of passengers to the free rides offered by the government, which will last up to May 30, as well as to the addition of train sets.
“Ito ay resulta ng pagpapatupad ng LIBRENG SAKAY sa MRT-3 at pagpapatakbo ng mas maraming train sets, na binubuo ng 19 3-car CKD train sets, at apat na 4-car CKD train sets sa mainline tuwing operational hours,” it said on Facebook.
The speed of the MRT-3 was increased to 60 kph in December 2020, and the time interval between the arrival of the trains has been reduced from 8.5 to 9 minutes to 3.5 to 4 minutes, it said.
Prior to the pandemic, the MRT-3 had 250,000 to 300,000 passengers per day.
