Nacionalista Party wants Martin Romualdez to be the next House Speaker
The Nacionalista Party has endorsed Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez to be the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Romualdez is the cousin of presumptive president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who also wants him to lead the House.
Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar said the NP is fully supporting Romualdez for the speakership, and cited his track record as Majority Leader.
“His outstanding performance as Majority Floor Leader of the 18th Congress shepherding vital legislation and building consensus and harmony among the diverse members of the House make him well-suited for the Speakership,” Villar said in a statement.
Romualdez, she said, “will be a vital cog as the incoming Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. administration fulfill its vision of unity and prosperity for the country.”
The NP is the latest political party to support Romualdez for the position of Speaker for the 19th Congress.
Also backing Romualdez is former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who has been elected to another term as Pampanga representative.
Arroyo served as House Speaker during the 17th Congress.
