Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan on Wednesday (May 4) assured international observers that they will be given “unimpeded” access to this year’s polls.

“You shall have unimpeded access to the electoral process subject only to such conditions necessary for the protection of our COMELEC personnel and property as well as the protection of privileged information,” he said during the briefing for observers held in Paranaque City.

“We ask that our monitors uphold the integrity of the elections through their compliance with our guidelines,” he added.

Pangarangun expressed confidence that “our monitors will maintain their impartiality and objectivity throughout the electoral process.”

The COMELEC chairman noted the poll body, as part of its mandate, “invited and accredited independent international monitors to observe the conduct of our election in the interest of honesty and transparency.”

“I thank our monitors for their contribution to the democratic exercise of electing the next officials of the Republic of the Philippines,” he stated.
