Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has approved the ordinance that would provide a P500 monthly financial assistance for one year to indigent senior citizens, solo parents and persons with disabilities.

The amount is intended to help the most vulnerable sectors deal with the effects of the pandemic and the rising prices of goods, said Belmonte.

It would be distributed after the approval of the implementing rules and regulations.

“Malaki ang maitutulong nito para sa kanilang araw-araw na gastusin sa pagkain, gamot at iba pang pangangailangan,” Belmonte said.

She also praised Vice Mayor Gian Sotto and the city council for the approval of the ordinance, which was sponsored by Councilors Diorella Maria Sotto, Franz Pumaren, Lena Marie Juico, Rogelio Juan and Jorge Banal Sr.

The cash assistance would be given to indigent senior citizens, solo parents and persons with disabilities who are not already benefiting from any other regular government financial assistance such as social pension and cash transfer programs.

Only one beneficiary per household could qualify for the assistance.

The Quezon City government said target beneficiaries may submit their application to the Office for the Senior Citizens Affairs, Persons with Disability Office, or with the Social Services and Development Department indigent solo parents.

Applicants’ eligibility would have to be verified, it said.

Once they pass the case study, they would be registered as beneficiaries and would receive the cash aid via direct payment, cash card, or electronic or digital means, it said.

After one year, the beneficiaries would be re-evaluated to check if they would remain eligible for the program.
