South and east bike lane network opens in Metro Manila
Bike riding in Metro Manila has become safer and more convenient with the inauguration of the South and East Metro Manila Bike Lane Network on Wednesday.
Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, who also chairs the Metro Manila Council, joined the event at the Alabang West Parade, Daang Hari Road and hailed the completion of the project.
Olivarez said the new south and east bike lanes would help make the roads safer for cyclists and provide an alternative means of transportation for residents in the capital region.
These new lanes would also encourage people to try out the healthier option of riding a bike, he said.
“Kami po ay nagpapasalamat sa DOTr pati po sa DPWH dito po sa proyektong ito, at napakalaking tulong po sa amin ito sa local government unit,” he said.
He also said the local governments of Metro Manila would continue to support projects of the Department of Transportation and of the Department of Public Works and Highways that would make things more convenient and comfortable for the public.
The DOTr said the East Metro Manila Bike Lane Network covers 17.2 kilometers in six road sections in Marikina City, while the South Metro Manila Bike Lane Network covers 49.36 kilometers in three road sections traversing Parañaque, Muntinlupa, and Las Piñas cities.
