Quezon City’s Joy Belmonte lone PH mayor invited to US State Dept. leadership program
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte is the lone Philippine local government official asked to join the International Visitor Leadership Program of the US State Department.
Belmonte was one of 17 participants in the program, which was an initiative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the State Department in cooperation with the US Agency for International Development, according to the Quezon City government.
The IVLP aims to discuss effective ways of combating corruption and authoritarianism and upholding human rights, it explained.
“Mahalaga ito lalo’t kabilang sa 14 point agenda ni Mayor Joy ang maging modelo ng mabuting pamamahala ang Quezon City,” it said on Facebook.
It noted that participants in the IVLP do not apply to be included in the professional exchange program.
They are nominated by US embassies in different parts of the world.
The US State Department chooses the participants from among the nominees.
