Palpak ulit! Stella Quimbo thinks DOH wrong to remove daily COVID case tally

Stella Quimbo criticized the Department of Health anew for ditching the daily tally of COVID-19 cases as multiple provinces are now under low risk of a contagion.

“’Inertia gets more entrenched’ – Sec. Duque’s reason for shifting from daily to weekly reports. Ano kaya meaning nito? 😅 Dahil sa daily reporting ng DOH natatakot ang mga tao at nagkakatakutan pa sila?,” the Marikina congresswoman and economist said. “ If so, I don’t think that’s a good enough reason for the shift.”

For the politiko, reminding people about the real COVID-19 situation might encourage recklessness.

“Weekly reports might weaken people’s ability to make informed risk decisions – when to leave the house or work/study F2F, etc. Remember: the omicron surge happened within 1 week! If we didn’t have daily reports, we could’ve kept mingling & it could have been much worse,” she added.

“I think the solution is not to shift from making daily reports to weekly reports but rather for DOH to give MORE information on how to handle COVID at home, making testing accessible, and having sufficient hospital beds and manpower – that’s how you boost people’s confidence.”
