Rex Gatchalian shares new look of Valenzuela’s welcome arch
The city government of Valenzuela has finished restoring the welcome arch at Barangay Arkong Bato in time for the celebration of Cityhood Day next week.
In a Facebook post, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian said the arch’s restoration was aimed at bringing its old glory back.
He also shared a trivia: “The Arkong Bato Welcome Arch is a Spanish-era structure that used to identify the boundary of the provinces of Bulacan and Rizal. Valenzuela then was still part of Bulacan and everything else south of the city was part of Rizal.”
Gatchalian said Valenzuela is the only locality in Metro Manila that was annexed out of Bulacan since other cities were carved out of Rizal.
Following the arch’s repair, Gatchalian said the city government will undertake the restoration of the Arkong Bato Park and the Dr. Pio Valenzuela House.
