Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian has teamed up with the Philippine Daily Inquirer to improve news literacy among the city’s students.

In a Facebook post, Gatchalian said the digital edition of the Inquirer will be available in public schools in Valenzuela for students to read.

“Hopefully, this project improves literacy, love of reading, staying current with news, and figuring out proper news sources. Hindi yung maloko ng fake news, sa hanay ng ating kabataan,” he said.

Gatchaian also shared that as a kid, he used to keep news clippings as part of a school activity where students were asked to summarize news reports.

“It taught me the joy of reading newspapers, the awareness of staying in tune with current events and what is happening within the country and the world,” he said.
