Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos has resigned from his post Monday (February 7), barely a year after he was appointed to the post.

Abalos said he will be working as the national campaign manager of presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“The campaign period is fast approaching and I will need to devote my time to Senator Bongbong Marcos’ campaign as his national campaign manager,” Abalos said, reading from the resignation letter he sent to President Rodrigo Duterte.

MMDA General Manager Romando Artes has been designated as the agency’s officer-in-charge pending the appointment of a new chairman by Duterte.

Abalos was appointed to the MMDA in January 2021 following the death of then-chairman Danilo Lim.
