Stella Quimbo urges colleagues: Support bill on PhilHealth reforms
Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo has called on her fellow lawmakers to support her bill to reform the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), which has long been hounded by allegations of mismanagement and corruption.
In a statement, she said House Bill 7429 will help PhilHealth improve its operations and fiscal management by outsourcing expertise from the private sector to operate highly technical segments in PhilHealth.
The bill also allows the immediate contracting of a management team to assess and undertake reforms within the state health insurer.
“Aayusin nila ang sistema at ite-train ang mga empleyado. Maraming talented individuals sa private sector ang capable of managing health insurance programs pero hindi sila mag-a-apply individually sa PhilHealth dahil sa bigat ng problema at mababa ang sweldo,” Quimbo explained.
The House committee on health has created a technical working group to further deliberate Quimbo’s bill
“With this, I continuously call on the Executive and my colleagues from the Congress to support the bill. Long overdue na ang reporma ng PhilHealth. Bigyan na natin ng sapat ng proteksyon ang Pilipino laban sa matinding gastusin dala ng pagkakasakit,” she said.
