A solon has called on residents of the National Capital Region (NCR) to conserve water after the Angat dam failed to reach its maximum reserve target.

House Deputy Speaker and Valenzuela City Rep. Eric Martinez said the target at the beginning of 2022 is 212 meters. However, the current level in Angat is only 202.80 meters.

“Residents within Metro Manila should be wary of their water consumption, most especially for the months leading to the dry season,” Martinez said.

Martinez also called for the government’s proactivity to lay down effective plans to avoid the water crisis in NCR and nearby provinces.

“All the necessary contingency measures must now be put in place by the NWRB (National Water Resources Board) to ensure a stable supply for Metro Manila’s residents, for the most part, we are still dealing with a deadly coronavirus and proper hygiene is of prime importance,” he added.

Angat Dam supplies water to 98% of Metro Manila. It has a water storage capacity of about 850 million cubic meters.
