QC govt’s wealth should be felt by residents — Defensor
Mayoral candidate and Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor said that the wealth of the Quezon City government should be felt by its residents and not just read or heard about it on media.
Nabibigyan ba kayo dun? Nagkakaroon ba kayo ng benepisyo? Yan po ang dapat magbago,” said Defensor in a recent talk with residents of Barangay Bagbag.
He pointed out that the Quezon City government has the biggest budget among the cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) but it failed to provide what other local government units, which have smaller budgets, are giving their constituents.
Defensor has been pushing for a bigger budget for education especially since less than 20% of the city’s population are college degree holders based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.
He said aside from free tuition, college students should be given at least P1,000 weekly allowance to increase their chance of finishing their baccalaureate degree.
In his previous talks with QC residents, Defensor has been underscoring the importance of education that can change the status of one’s life.
