Unfair! Isko Moreno slams ‘no vax, no subsidy’ plan
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has cried foul over the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) proposal to withhold government aid to unvaccinated individuals.
Moreno said the so-called “no vaccine, no subsidy” proposal would defeat the purpose of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and the national government’s COVID-19 financial assistance programs.
“The concept of ayuda and 4Ps is to alleviate yung buhay ng tao and you cannot penalize somebody because ayaw nila magpabakuna. Di natin sila bibigyan ng ayuda? It defeats the purpose of government to help the poorest of the poor,” he said.
“You cannot penalize them for not being vaccinated. That is unfair,” the mayor added.
Earlier this week, DILG Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya revealed proposals to “dis-incentivise” unvaccinated recipients of the government’s anti-poverty programs.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, however, said aid recipients are not required by any law on the 4Ps program to get vaccinated.
