Isko Moreno tells students to value their studies: ‘Di kailangang valedictorian, pero magsipag!
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno advised students to study hard, saying they could change their future through education.
In a speech before freshmen students of the University of the East on Sept. 10, Moreno said he valued the chance to study when he was a politiko because he didn’t finish school when he was young.
“Mahirap ang ‘di nakapag-aral, naku po Diyos ko. Ang hirap. Maswerte na lang ako at artistahin ako, kung hindi, malamang kamote aabutin ko. Kaya pagyabungin ninyo yan, sayang. And excel from it. Don’t take it lightly. ‘Yan dapat maging study habit ninyo,” he said.
Moreno recalled hearing insults when he started as a politiko because high school was his highest educational attainment at that time.
“Kayo maswerte, mapalad kayo nagkaroom kayo ng mga magulang na nairaraos kayo. Don’t miss that.
You don’t have to be valedictorian, that’s good bonus yan. You don’t have to be salutatorian, pag nangyari yun bonus nalang yun. You have to excel,” he said.
