‘Di pababayaan! Isko Moreno assures aid will continue for pandemic-hit residents
The city government of Manila will continue providing assistance to residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Isko Moreno has assured.
In his third State of the City Address on July 15, Moreno said it was also important for the government to address poverty alongside the health crisis.
“COVID does not only prey on the physically unhealthy but also on the financially weak. Although we observe social distancing to stop Covid, we practice social solidarity to fight its effects,” he said.
The government has been providing financial assistance to an estimated 15,000 senior citizens, 21,800 persons with disabilities, 5,000 solo parents, 17,000 college students and 5,000 Grade 12 students.
Close to 700,000 families also receive food boxes for their families monthly under the Food Security Program (FSP).
“Pinilit natin maging makatao. Gaya ng lagi kong sinasabi, ang pandemyang ito, walang tinuturong jurisdiksyon, walang tinuturong katayunan sa lipunan. Lahat pwedeng tamaan,” Moreno said.
