Shelter during rain: MMDA launches emergency lay-by for motorcycle riders
Motorcycle riders now have a place to seek shelter during rains as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) unveiled an emergency lay-by at the ground level of Quezon Avenue Flyover on EDSA.
MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said motorcycle riders would be allowed to stop at the emergency lay-by when raining so they do not block the highway while waiting for the downpour to stop.
“We understand the plight of motorcycle riders when they have to stop in the middle of the road while waiting for the rain to stop, it’s very risky for them because they might get into a road accident. At least with the emergency lay-by, they can take cover during heavy rains,” he said.
Abalos reminded motorcycle riders that the lay-by is only for rain shelter. Parking is prohibited.
No parking shall be allowed or they shall receive a violation ticket for illegal parking,” he said.
The emergency lay-by has allotted spaces for motorcycles to use – with designated entrance and exit signs.
