No coordination on construction: Fresnedi disputes Bantag’s claim on Bilibid wall
Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi has disputed the claim of Bureau of Corrections Director General Gerald Bantag that the agency coordinated with the local government regarding the building of a wall inside the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) Reservation.
At the recent hearing of the House Justice Committee on the wall, Fresnedi said the construction of the wall was unlawful and there has been an excessive use of authority from BuCor.
“Yung sinasabi ni Director Bantag na coordination, they notified the local government of the closure of Insular Road, wala pong katotohanan ‘yun. I vehemently deny, as far as the blocking of the road is concerned, that there wasn’t any communication on this matter,” the mayor said.
Residents of Southville 3 have complained that the wall along Insular Road blocks their access to and from the city proper.
Leyte Rep. Vicente Veloso III, the committee chairman, urged the BuCor to tear down the wall or they face the possibility of facing graft charges.
“Let it be a warning, kapag hinarangan niyo pa ‘yan, hindi niyo giniba ‘yan, pwede kayong kasuhan sa Ombudsman, aakyat ‘yan sa Sandiganbayan for violation of Section 3, Paragraph E of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act,” Veloso said.
