Salamat sa serbisyo: Vico Sotto gives separation pay to senior LGU employees forced to retire
Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto sought to blunt the impact of the forced retirement for over 100 elderly employees of the city hall by giving them a separation or gratuity pay.
In a Facebook post, Sotto said 73 Pasig health aides and 33 local government employees aged 65 years and older will receive a separation pay of P10,000 for each year of service.
The health aides will receive an additional P5,000 for each year they worked as a barangay health worker.
“Ito po ay bilang pasasalamat sa kanilang paglingkod sa ating lungsod… lalo na sa ating mga PHA, na nagsilbing pundasyon ng ating serbisyong pangkalusugan sa mga barangay health center. Ibang klase ang sipag at dedikasyon nila. Deserve nila ‘to,” Sotto said.
The mayor said the grant of the separation pay was the least that the city government can do for the elderly workers since it’s difficult to reinstate them to their old jobs due to the pandemic.
“Alam kong may iba sa kanila na gusto pa sanang magtrabaho.. kaso napaka hirap din talaga ng pinagdaraanan nating pandemya.. hindi rin naman fair na patuloy silang may allowance samantalang bawal pumasok dahil 65yrs old pataas,” he said.
Sotto expressed hope that the former employees will use their separation pay wisely for investments or to start a business.
