Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos has sacked two traffic enforcers who were caught on video extorting money from a driver for a traffic violation.

The enforcers, Edmon Belleca and Christian Malemit, were charged with extortion and grave misconduct for asking P1,000 from the driver so he will not be apprehended for alleged violation of Republic Actt 10913, otherwise known as the Anti-Distracted Driving Act.

The MMDA chief has vowed to provide legal assistance to the motorist who recorded the extortion attempt of the two enforcers.

Sisiguraduhin namin na magiging accountable sila sa kanilang ginawa,” he said.

Abalos said the dismissal of the two traffic enforcers should serve as a lesson to other MMDA employees that wrongdoing and corruption will not be tolerated in the agency.
