Oca Malapitan encourages residents to get COVID-19 jab as DOH denies vaccine caused man’s stroke
Caloocan Mayor Oca Malapitan called on residents to get vaccinated against COVID-19 despite a viral social media post linking a man’s stroke to the Sinovac jab.
The Department of Health (DOH) has said that there’s no link between the vaccine and the stroke suffered by Fredy Totanis, a Caloocan resident, a few days after he was vaccinated on March 29.
In a statement, Malapitan said the local government continues to monitor Totanis’ condition and help his family.
“Sa kabila nito, nais tiyakin ng Pamahalaang Lungsod na ang lahat ng binabakunahan sa ating mass vaccination centers ay sumasailalim sa masusing screening, counselling at monitoring,” he said.
Malapitan said doctors are present at vaccination centers to assess patients if they’re fit to receive the vaccine.
“Sa mga mamamayan ng Caloocan, huwag natin sayangin ang pagkakataon na tuluyan nang matuldukan ang pandemyang ito, magpabakuna tayo,” he said.
