Vico Sotto: ‘Universal ayuda’ unlikely, cash aid from nat’l gov’t will take weeks to arrive

Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto sought to manage expectations on the grant of financial assistance for poor families in light of the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and four surrounding provinces.

In a reply to his April 3 Facebook post on Pasig’s COVID-19 vaccination program, Sotto said it will take a while before the local government unit (LGU) receives the budget for the cash aid from the national government.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the grant of P1,000 to each poor individual affected by the ECQ, with the financial assistance capped at P4,000 per family.

The mayor said it’s unlikely for the LGU to give cash aid to residents due to budgetary constraints.

Sotto said funds for the implementation of the social amelioration program’s (SAP) second tranche is with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), not the LGU.
