‘Di mauuna sa pila: Joy Belmonte to wait for turn to be vaccinated vs COVID-19
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte will not jump the line to be vaccinated against COVID-19 despite her willingness to take the jab in public.
Belmonte said at the kickoff of the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program on March 1 that healthcare workers should be prioritized for the vaccine.
“We must not deprive a single health worker of the vaccine since these are so limited at present and I am happy to wait for my turn in the list,” she said.
Around 600,000 doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine from China arrived this week. Vaccines from AstraZeneca are expected to arrive soon.
Belmonte welcomed the start of the vaccination program, saying it will help Filipinos return to normalcy.
She expressed hope that medical frontliners will grab the opportunity to be vaccinated immediately.
Rather than wait for weeks or even months for other vaccines, thereby risking our lives and those of our loved ones, with each passing day, let us avail of what is already here with us,” Belmonte said.
