Winnie Castelo seeks P10-M fund to compensate QC residents with adverse side effects to COVID-19 vaccine
Quezon City councilor Winnie Castelo has filed a resolution proposing the establishment of a P10-million fund to indemnify residents who will develop adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccine.
In his resolution, Castelo said the fund “shall cover compensation and indemnification of vaccine recipients in Quezon City who pursue claims for vaccine-related injuries or any adverse effects resulting from vaccination.”
He suggested that the P10-million fund be sourced from the city budget for the current fiscal year.
Castelo said the creation of an indemnification fund will help boost public confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine.
He noted that while some countries reported individuals who developed adverse side effects to the vaccine, they were rare and not serious.
“Vaccine hesitancy is one of the major challenges to vaccine uptake and the achievement of herd immunity, which is required to protect the most vulnerable populations, allow the nation to return to pre-pandemic normalcy and get the economy on the road to recovery,” Castelo said.
