Refs, freezers enough: Abby Binay explains why Makati doesn’t have COVID-19 vaccine storage facility
Makati won’t be building a cold storage facility for COVID-19 vaccines.
In her February 22 column for Pilipino Star Ngayon, Makati Mayor Abby Binay said the city has no need for a cold storage facility because it has a “drawdown arrangement” with AstraZeneca and Pfizer, which will supply the vaccines.
The mayor said the city government has bought 42 biomedical refrigerators at laboratory freezers for the vaccine depots where supplies will be stored.
Binay said she also agreed with the advice of vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. that local governments should focus more on human resources for the vaccine rollout.
“Kung hindi naman kailangan, hindi na dapat pagkagastusan,” she said.
