Ruffy Biazon says Duterte shouldn’t revoke VFA as China passes coast guard law

The Philippines needs the United States as an ally now more than ever against China.

Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon cautioned the Duterte administration against pulling out for good from the decades-old Visiting Forces Agreement with the US, saying Manila needs all the help it can get to push back against China as its new law allowing coast guard personnel to shoot at foreign vessels at sea takes effect soon.

“The threat brought about by the new Chinese law authorizing the Chinese Coast Guard to use weapons in SCS/WPS and the statement of the US Secretary of State affirming their commitment to the PH should compel the govt to rethink the termination of the VFA,” the politiko said, noting that Beijing could take advantage of this gray area of defense.
