‘You’ve earned your place in heaven’: Benhur Abalos mourns mom’s death due to COVID-19

Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos expressed his grief on social media Tuesday, January 26, following the passing of his mother, Corazon, due to COVID-19.

In a Facebook post, Benhur apologized to his mother for telling her at the hospital that she would recover from the deadly disease.

“I know of how you fought up to your last breath to fulfill this dream to be with dad and us your family for almost 7months. Our heart is shattered right now of your passing,” he said.

The MMDA chairman said his family is comforted by the thought that his mother is now in heaven.

“Have a good rest mommy. We know that you are with the good Lord, happy and at peace. You have earned your place in heaven. Not only have you given us, your family, your unconditional love; but likewise shared this love with countless others, especially the needy,” he said.

The MMDA said a necrological service and mass will be held in honor of the Abalos matriarch on February 2 should “everything and everyone be cleared.”
