“Academic freedom is under attack from morons in government who think they’re saviors,” former Akbayan Representative Tom Villarin said.

The politiko joined mounting condemnation of the Department of National Defense in suddenly and unilaterally trying to revoke a long-time accord keeping military and police forces out of UP campuses. For him, it was a crackdown on dissent clear as day.

“UP and other academic institutions should never be held hostage to express views contrary to those in power,” Villarin added.
