Tantamount to discrimination: Joy Belmonte slams Arayat LGU’s restriction on entry of QC residents
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has cried foul over the decision of the Arayat local government to restrict the entry of Quezon City residents to their municipality after someone tested positive for the new COVID-19 variant from the United Kingdom.
“We strongly denounce the Arayat local government’s decision to restrict the entry of Quezon City residents to their municipality, because this decision is totally without basis, can cause undue panic, and is tantamount to discrimination,” Belmonte said in a statement.
Belmonte said the resident who tested positive for the UK variant of COVID-19 never set foot in Quezon City since arriving back in the Philippines from Dubai on January 7.
“Since January 8, he has been staying at a facility where he remains up to this day for treatment,” she said.
Belmonte said all but one of the traveler’s eight close contacts are in quarantine while waiting for the results of their RT-PCR test for COVID-19.
“For the above-mentioned reasons, we appeal to the Arayat Pampanga LGU to reconsider its earlier order and allow QC residents to enter its jurisdiction,” she said.
