Stella Quimbo wants probe on PNP standards on issuing guns to cops

There’s clearly a problem with how the Philippine National Police supplies arms to its men.

Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo wants the PNP probed for its system of issuing guns to its personnel, as well as the entire selection process of uniformed men and women entering the service.

Her request came in the aftermath of rogue cop Jonel Nuezca using his government-issued gun to shoot dead a mother and son named Sonya and Frank Gregorio in Tarlac over an entirely personal issue.

“Today, I filed a resolution for an inquiry into the PNP’s standards for evaluating its personnel and its policies on firearms, including the circumstances for the use of firearms,” the politiko said.

Discussions may be picked up in January once the House reopens for sessions.
