The local government of Pasig has exempted cyclists from wearing face shields while biking in the city.

Pasig Transport, the city governnment’s Facebook page for transportation-related announcements, said in a post that evidence and consultation among bikers showed it’s dangerous for bikers to wear face shields.

“Wearing a face shield obstructs view and makes breathing difficult. Meanwhile, biking naturally isolates riders from other commuters,” the post read.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) recently announced that wearing face masks and face shields will now be mandatory for anyone leaving their homes.

The Department of Health, however, said it will consider exempting those who ride a bicycle alone from wearing face shields.
