The city government of San Juan opted to put up Christmas decor it used last year instead of buying new ones.

At the lighting of the Christmas tree in Pinaglabanan Shrine on Thursday, December 10, San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said the city government opted for a simpler holiday celebration due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our priorities are the health and welfare of our constituents during this pandemic so our Christmas decors this year are recycled. These decors are the same ones that we have used the previous year. Bahagi ito ng pagiging masinop natin sa paggamit ng pondo,” he said.

Despite using recycled decor, Zamora said residents and visitors to San Juan will see brighter streets with the installation of 1,000 LED street lights.

The mayor said he requested Meralco to replace its existing streetlights with the same specifications which the utility company said will start doing so this month.

“I requested them to install the same specs so that the entire San Juan City will be lit with uniformed LED lights to ensure that all the San Juaneños will be safe and secure, pantay- pantay ang liwanag at lahat ng tao ay komportable at ligtas,” he said.
