No fondness for Velasco? Camille Villar declines election as Deputy Speaker

Las Pinas Rep. Camille Villar has turned down her election as Deputy Speaker, one of the key positions in the House of Representatives.

Villar wrote House Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco on November 18 to formally decline her designation as Deputy Speaker.

A stalwart of the Nacionalista Party with former Speaker Allan Peter Cayetano, Villar said she will continue to support Velasco even if she’s not one of the House’s key leaders.

“It is an opportune time to work with my fellow congressmen and the leaders of the House of Representatives on policy measures that would give personal and economic relief to our kababayans amid the past disasters and the pandemic. But the greater tact is adherent responsibility to our constituents, the adroit loyalty to allies and friends and the constant affinity to the leadership and nation,” she explained.

“Rest assured that I am committed to your goals as a partner in development and will support your legislative agenda in the formation of a Congress of the people,” Villar added.
