Wes Gatchalian: Situation at House ‘back to normal’ after Velasco’s election as Speaker
Valenzuela Rep. Wes Gatchalian has vowed that things will return to normal at the House of Representatives after Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco was elected as the new House Speaker.
In a Facebook post, Gatchalian apologized for the leadership row in the House, which was caused by Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano’s refusal to resign before Velasco’s election on October 12.
“Ngayon na ang Mababang Kapulungan ay nasa ilalim na ng bagong pamumuno, makakaasa kayo na ang lahat ay babalik na sa dati at tayo ay makakapagpasa ng malinis at tapat na badyet para sa taong 2021,” he said.
Gatchalian said he supports the term sharing agreement between Cayetano and Velasco, which involved the Marinduque lawmaker succeeding Cayetano as Speaker 15 months from July 2019.
Cayetano announced his “irrevocable resignation” on October 13, the same day Velasco’s election as Speaker was ratified at the plenary.
