Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian has signed a memorandum of agreement with the administrators of Valenzuela Online Palengke and Valenzuela Online Tiangge on Facebook to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) thrive in the digital marketplace.

Under the agreement, the city government will boost the Facebook posts of the local SMMEs and online sellers so that it will have a wider range of audience aside from people who are following the page – even outside Valenzuela City.

Valenzuela City residents are only allowed to post their goods, products, and services on the Facebook group/page. A marketplace directory will also be maintained for buyers to check the legitimacy of the sellers on the platform.

“We tapped into existing capacities out there, through this partnership, we want to make sure that there is space for SMMEs to be able to sell and get their products out there. The local government unit will be in charge of advertising, boosting and placing banner ads for these existing Facebook pages,” Gatchalian explained.

Valenzuela is the first local government unit in the country to initiate a public-private partnership with a Facebook Page/Group curator specifically to support online MSMEs.
