Nagmatigas sa P80! DOTr halts BEEP card use for EDSA busway
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has suspended the use of BEEP cards for the EDSA Busway system due to the supplier’s refusal to waive the P80 fee for the card.
DOTr said the use of BEEP cards for the city buses plying EDSA will no longer be mandatory starting October 5.
In its place, the DOTr said a dual payment system will be implemented. Those who have BEEP cards can still use them while cash payments will also be accommodated.
DOTr said it was “saddened” by the refusal of BEEP card provider AF Payments Inc. to give the cards for free to commuters despite consistent pleas from commuters and the government.
“This would have made a big difference to the commuters, mostly daily wage earners who are the most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” it said in a statement.
The DOTr said the consortia managing the EDSA busway will look for another automated fare collection service provider which “can offer a better solution to the existing problem.”
