Ping explains why House leadership change should not affect Senate
The leadership change at the House of Representatives should not affect senators, or at least those who are against legislative abuses of the power of the purse, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Wednesday.
Lacson said senators who choose to be such “vanguards” will continue to do their duty, “no matter who leads the House.”
“No matter who leads the House, the Senate – or at least like-minded senators who choose to be the vanguards against the legislative abuse of the power of the purse – will not be affected,” Lacson said in a statement.
“We will continue to exercise what is expected of us in exercising our mandate and our obligation to the Filipino people in this regard,” he added.
The House of Representatives is due for a leadership change from Alan Peter Cayetano to Lord Allan Velasco, after they met with President Rodrigo Duterte Tuesday night.
Cayetano and Velasco had reportedly agreed to push through with an earlier term-sharing agreement where Velasco will take over as Speaker from Cayetano starting Oct. 14.
