Para sa bayan daw! Cayetano admits he wants to stay longer in his seat he wants to be called Speaker on his 50th birthday
Speaker Alan Cayetano spent over an hour in Congress justifying his plea to President Rodrigo Duterte to extend his stay in power by citing the approval of the 2021 budget as his primary motive.
“The budget must not be delayed as it will affect the government’s entire recovery program. If there is one budget in the last 50 years that is very important, it is this,” said Cayetano.
But Cayetano himself admitted to Duterte, in a meeting in Malacanang the previous night, that when he agreed to the term sharing deal for Speaker with Marinduque Rep. Lord Velasco in May 2019, he wanted to keep the title during his birthday on October 28.
“Sabi ko, ‘Boss let me explain. When we made the 15-21 (15 months for him, 21 months for Velasco), at nand’yan si Senator Bong Go, very clear ang usapan: I have two budgets na ipapasa, and magbi-birthday ako na ako ang Speaker’,” said Cayetano in his privilege speech.
Cayetano claimed Velasco, who was adamant on taking over as Speaker before Congress went on recess on October 15, stood his ground..
(Velasco is six years younger than the 49-year old Cayetano).
