Dapat abot kaya! Precious Castelo bats for single price for RT-PCR test

Quezon City Rep. Precious Hipolito Castelo backs the plan of the Department of Health (DOH) to prescribe a single, common price for the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or swab test for suspected COVID-19 virus carriers.

Castelo said based on information she received, the cost of RT-PCR varies from P3,500, which is the price the Philippine National Red Cross charges, to a high of P12,500, the rate some private hospitals impose for persons who avail themselves of their drive-through service and who want results to be available in 24 hours.

“Based on prevailing prices, I am suggesting that an affordable rate would be P2,000. The results should be available in 24 hours,” the lawmaker said.

Castelo said people will be encouraged to have themselves tested for COVID-19 if the cost of an RT-PCR test goes down to P2,000.

“P2,000 every 15 days or at least once a month for one’s peace of mind. RT-PCR centers will have long lines of test applicants,” she said.
