More Taguig students get scholarships as budget jumps to P675 million
The number of scholars in Taguig have increased to more than 32,000 as the city’s budget for scholars jumped to P675 million under Mayor Lino Cayetano.
The Commission on Audit said in its annual audit report that 32,485 students have qualified for the various scholarship programs offered by the local government, some of which include allowances.
Taguig started offering scholarships to qualified and deserving students in 2011, with a budget of only P100 million. The increase in funding has allowed the local government to partner with 47 private high schools for the initiative.
Former and current scholars interviewed by the city government said the scholarships helped them find employment after graduation.
Cayetano has promised to maintain or even add the number of students who can avail themselves of scholarships.
