Yap: There’s 99.9% chance Cayetano keeps his post
ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Eric Yap said House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has a “99.9 percent” chance of retaining his post as leader of the House despite the threat from Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte to declare his seat, along with those of all deputy speakers, vacant.
“I have a 99.9 percent feeling na talagang si Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano pa rin iyong magiging Speaker namin dahil wala pong problema sa pamamalakad niya,” Yap said in an interview on ANC.
“Wala namang coup d’état na mangyayari kasi hindi natin afford,” he added.
“May Covid-19 na, tapos mag-a-away-away pa,” Yap said.
“Siguro bago dumating iyong November, magsasalita ang ating Presidente at kung ano mang sasabihin niya, ano man iyong mapagkasunduan ng majority namin dito sa Congress, gagalangin namin iyon,” he added.
Duterte on Sunday confirmed sending a message to his colleagues warning about asking the Mindanao bloc to declare a vacancy in the seats of the Speaker and the deputy speakers.
But in a statement, Duterte said he would not personally intervene, since any action or word coming from him would be interpreted as having the blessing of his father.
“Actually, yung sinabi nya is parang, sinasabi nya sa mga members, kung kayo nagrereklamo, di kayo masaya sa leadership, e di kayo ang magdeclare ng vacancy sa speakership. Sya naman is, ang stand nya from the start is pagdating sa budget ayaw nya makialam,” Yap said.
