Stella Quimbo tells Philhealth: Don’t let hospitals file claims for suspected COVID-19 patients
Marikina City Rep. Stella Quimbo has called on Philhealth to suspend its policy of allowing hospitals to file COVID-19 claims under the interim reimbursement mechanism (IRM) for patients suspected of contracting the virus.
In a statement, Quimbo said hospitals should know by the time a patient is discharged whether he or she contracted COVID-19 since there’s virtually no testing backlog anymore.
She said Philhealth’s existing policy of allowing hospitals to be reimbursed for suspected and probable COVID-19 cases have resulted in “upcasing” or paying more than what medical centers are entitled to.
